Opinion on connection of FDAS to Alarm Receiving Station

In response to a number of queries I have received on this subject, my opinion is as follows:

The current standard I.S.3218:2024 is quite specific. Clause 6.9 is a ‘shall’ condition that the link must

be I.S.EN54-21 compliant.

I am not aware of an intruder device having such a link.

Essentially this means that where an FDAS system is compliantly linked to an ARC, it MUST be

through an I.S.EN54-21 compliant device. Any other connection will mean the system is deemed to be

not connected compliantly and will also require that the Standby Power time must be increased as per

a non-monitored system

In addition, any such link must have the FDAS Standby Power PSU (as I.S.EN54-4) for the rated

duration of the FDAS installation. This will not be the case with an intruder panel link, but will be

achieved with a power supply from the FDAC CIE

Finally, having a Life Safety system (FDAS) linked through a channel in a non – life safety system (and

where the FDAS Service Provider may not have access) is, in my opinion, a bad option – I have always

felt this way.
